Paying for care

Understand the payment path before booking.

A workable care plan includes knowing who pays, what has been approved, and which costs remain the family’s responsibility.

Begin with the full written quote.

Ask the provider to list the proposed tasks, schedule, minimum visit length and all relevant charges. Then compare that quote with the payment source you intend to use. Keep a clear record of anything the payer has not yet confirmed.

Different payment routes answer different questions.

  • Private pay: what is the complete cost, billing schedule and cancellation policy?
  • Long-term care insurance: does the policy cover the provider and services, and what must happen before benefits begin?
  • Veterans’ care: what assessment, eligibility decision and service authorization are required?
  • Medicare: are the requested services eligible skilled home health, or non-medical daily support?

A more manageable next step

You don’t need all the answers.
